By the end of 2025, China aims to have 15 critical care medical beds per 100,000 people, with 10 of those being convertible ICU beds, according to the National Health Commission.
This policy, announced on April 1, 2024, seeks to strengthen critical care capacity, improving the bed-to-doctor and bed-to-protection ratios, and boosting specialized services nationwide. With further expansion planned by 2027, these initiatives will significantly enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
